Search and Destroy coming to XDefiant?

XDefiant's Executive Producer, Mark Rubin, has announced that the game will include a Search and Destroy mode, eliciting both excitement and concern from players.

Search and Destroy is a well-known FPS mode where two teams compete: one defends one or two bomb sites, while the other attacks, aiming to plant a bomb. A key feature is that players only have one life per round, making every death significant.

Details on how this mode will function in XDefiant are yet to be disclosed, as the game hasn't introduced a mode with limited lives. The closest existing mode in the Ubisoft title is Escort, which delays respawns for the defending team but doesn't restrict the number of deaths per round.

Currently, players have only a social media post from Rubin confirming that the mode is in development.

This lack of detailed information has led to player speculation about the implementation of Search and Destroy in XDefiant, with some expressing concern that the unique abilities of each class might disrupt the traditional experience.

In a Reddit thread discussing the announcement of the new mode, players highlighted how certain abilities could disrupt the intended gameplay of Search and Destroy.

“SnD with Intel suits and spider bots that lead you straight to enemies sounds like an amazing time lol,” one user commented.

Other players suggested possible solutions, such as disabling Faction abilities for a brief period at the start of each round to prevent certain classes from exploiting their utilities. Another idea proposed was to make players earn their abilities like kill streaks, instead of having them readily available as in other modes.

So far, Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about new features in XDefiant, so players will have to wait to see how the developers implement Search and Destroy.
