Black Ops 6: Release Date and More

Black Ops 6, the upcoming Call of Duty title, is set for release in 2024. With the official announcement and a confirmed release date, here’s a summary of what we know so far.

Treyarch, the developer behind Black Ops 6, has had four years to work on this new title, their first main entry since Black Ops Cold War. This extended development period has allowed them to introduce significant changes to the Call of Duty series.

Black Ops 6 Release Date

Black Ops 6 is scheduled to launch on October 25, 2024. Initially, there were rumors of a November release, but the date was confirmed during the Black Ops 6 Direct event in June 2024.

Early Access and Beta

Pre-ordering Black Ops 6 grants early beta access, allowing players to test a limited version of the game featuring select multiplayer maps and modes. Game Pass subscribers will also receive beta access without needing to pre-order.

Platforms

Black Ops 6 will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. Despite Microsoft's 2022 agreement with Nintendo to bring future COD titles to their consoles, there's no news on a Nintendo Switch release for Black Ops 6.

Setting and Time Period

Black Ops 6 is set during the Gulf War, marking a first for the franchise. The Gulf War, which began in 1990 and lasted a year, saw Iraq against a 42-country coalition led by the United States. Players can expect a variety of multiplayer and Warzone maps, mainly set in the Middle East.

Major Changes: Omnimovement and Perk Categories

Treyarch has introduced two major changes in Black Ops 6. The first is omnidirectional movement (omnimovement), allowing players to sprint, dive, and shoot in any direction, enhancing mobility across maps.

Additionally, traditional perks return under three categories: Enforcer, Recon, and Strategist. Selecting three perks from the same category provides a boost, encouraging diverse playstyles without limiting perk choices.

Return of Round-Based Zombies

Round-based Zombies mode is back in Black Ops 6, much to the delight of fans. Launching with two maps, Terminus and Liberty Falls, this mode continues the Dark Aether storyline from Cold War. Treyarch may also incorporate both round-based and open-world zombie formats to appeal to a broader audience.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches on October 25 for PS5, PS4, Xbox S|X, Xbox One, and PC.
