Buffed MW2 AR Makes a Powerful Comeback

A Modern Warfare 2 assault rifle, previously overlooked in Warzone, has become meta again after receiving several buffs in Season 4.

The Chimera was a top-tier sniper support weapon when first introduced in Warzone 2, maintaining its status until MW3’s integration. However, it eventually fell out of favor as competitors like the WSP-9 and MCW JAK Raven rose to prominence.

Season 4 brought significant buffs and nerfs, notably enhancing the Chimera’s damage and increasing its arm modifier from 0.95x to 1.16x. These changes have improved both its TTK and overall consistency, re-establishing the Chimera as one of Warzone’s top sniper support weapons.

Warzone expert WhosImmortal praised the newly buffed assault rifle, stating, “The Chimera got some buffs in Season 4, and in all reality, this thing is better than ever right now.” He later described the MW2 AR as feeling “really, really good,” solidifying its place in Season 4’s meta.

WhosImmortal’s recommended loadout for the Chimera includes these attachments:

  • Muzzle: Casus Brake L
  • Barrel: 6.5″ EXF Vorpal
  • Underbarrel: XRK Edge BW-4 Handstop
  • Ammunition: Blackout High Grain Rounds
  • Magazine: 45 Round Mag

Since the Chimera is a Modern Warfare 2 weapon, its attachment options are more limited compared to newer Warzone weapons. Many of its barrels, stocks, and rear grips have significant penalties to ADS Speed and Mobility, making them less appealing.

Nevertheless, there is some flexibility with this loadout. Players might prefer swapping the Blackout High Grain Rounds for an optic, or those valuing stealth could replace the Casus Brake L muzzle with the Scratch 20-L Suppressor.
