Does Warzone Need Snipers?

Sniping has long sparked debate among Warzone players, but it's becoming increasingly clear that snipers, in their current form, are detrimental to the game.

For several weeks, the MORS dominated Urzikstan, with players frequently camping on buildings and taking shots from afar. This weapon's one-shot capability meant that even a mediocre or lucky shot could send players straight to the Gulag, leaving little room for counterplay.

Unsurprisingly, the Kar98k marksman rifle was introduced in Modern Warfare 3's Season 4, proving to be just as deadly but with added mobility and handling, enabling more aggressive playstyles.

However, the meta shaped by the Kar98k is problematic. Tall buildings have become instant threats, compelling players to overuse smoke grenades, which are increasingly essential in Warzone due to the prevalence of one-shot sniper rifles.

Veteran players will recall the frustration of facing the Kar98k in Verdansk. It's clear that adjustments are needed to balance snipers more effectively.

The reality is that snipers require minimal skill to use effectively, presenting almost no disadvantage for players who choose the Kar98k. This is compounded by the ability to pair it with a meta close-quarters weapon, nullifying the rifle’s primary drawback.

There's a general consensus that shooting mechanics in current Call of Duty titles are more forgiving than in the past, thanks to various aim settings and assist options. This sentiment is echoed by prominent figures in the community, including Call of Duty world champion Seth ‘Scump’ Abner.
