Call of Duty Cross-Play Gets Overhaul

Call of Duty’s Season 3 Cross-Play Update Brings Major Changes

Season 3 of Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops 6 introduces a significant update to the cross-play system, addressing long-standing concerns among players. In previous seasons, cross-play was mandatory in Ranked Play, which led to frustration among console players due to an increase in encounters with cheaters on PC. Many in the community have called for the ability to disable cross-play to create a fairer playing field.

In response to these concerns, developers have now implemented an option for console players to disable cross-play in Ranked Play. This means PlayStation and Xbox users can choose whether they want to play against all platforms, limit matchmaking to other consoles, or completely turn off cross-play. The goal is to reduce instances of cheating in console lobbies and provide a more balanced competitive experience.

While this change has been widely welcomed, some concerns remain. Disabling cross-play could lead to longer queue times due to a smaller matchmaking pool. Additionally, PC lobbies might see an increased number of cheaters since console players will have the option to avoid them. However, many console players see this as a necessary trade-off to ensure fairer competition.

Beyond the cross-play update, developers have also committed to strengthening their anti-cheat system, RICOCHET. They acknowledge that previous efforts to combat cheating fell short and are working on enhanced detection methods and additional security measures for future updates.

These changes mark a significant shift in how Call of Duty handles competitive balance, showing that developers are listening to community feedback and making adjustments to improve the overall experience.
